CAPE TOWN – Springbok Women lock Vainah Ubisi is determined to use rugby to break boundaries while improving her personal game.
The Bok Women’s lanky player was one of the try scorers in South Africa’s 31-24 victory in their WXV2 clash against Japan at DHL Stadium on Friday night.
Aseza Hele, Chumisa Qawe, Sanelisiwe Charlie, Ayanda Malinga and Ubisi dominated in the try scoring as Swys de Bruin’s charges kickstarted the campaign on a high.
The Moletjie-Leokama village born is aiming high as she wants to make her mark on the international stage.
“I think starting from this year in my rugby game, I just told myself that I have to take my rugby seriously and then I have to grow from it,” said Ubisi.
“So starting from the domestic games, coming into national games, I’ve just been determined to keep my game on point and grow so much from it. I then took motivation from my teammates and learned from them.
“That’s what I’ve told myself from the beginning of the year, that I should make myself proud this year and grow my rugby.”
The Bulls Daisies player believes having experienced players like Nolusindiso Booi, and Babalwa Latsha in the team is what motivates her.
“I’m one of the youngest players in this team. So I’m always talking with the most experienced players,” she adds.
“So staying with them in the same environment just motivates me. And then the thing that they say to me is something that motivates a person. So I think that’s also the thing that they advise me on.
“That’s the thing that keeps me going.”
South Africa will face Australia Women in the WXV2 second ekspedisi murah round at Athlone Stadium on Saturday next week.
