The streets of Durban are preparing to sing their annual running anthem, and Neheng Khatala intends to add her own powerful verse.
The Lesotho 10km record holder arrives atthe Totalsports Women’s Race on Sunday, 2 August 2026 carrying the quiet confidence of an athlete whose engine is humming at precisely the right moment. Her fifth-place finish in 32:04 at the fiercely contested Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K offered more than another impressive result. It served as a statement that her form is gathering momentum like an ocean swell rolling towards the shoreline.
Now, with Women’s Month providing the perfect backdrop, Khatala has her sights fixed on producing another memorable performance on one of South Africa’s quickest road running stages.

“If I execute my race plan well, I believe a great result will follow,” she said. “Every race is an opportunity to improve, and I want to make the most of it.”
Those words reveal an athlete driven less by fanfare than by fine margins. Success in elite distance running often belongs to those who treat patience as a training partner and discipline as daily nutrition. Khatala appears to have mastered both.
The fast, flat Durban route has earned a reputation as a personal best factory, where swift legs often receive generous rewards. From the beachfront to Blue Lagoon and the towering Moses Mabhida Stadium, every kilometre invites runners to dance with destiny while the crowds provide a soundtrack capable of breathing fresh life into weary limbs.
For Khatala, the occasion stretches far beyond medals and finishing times.
“It shows the power of women supporting and inspiring one another,” she said. “Running brings us together regardless of where we come from or our backgrounds.”
That philosophy captures the heartbeat of the Totalsports Women’s Race. Thousands of women will lace up for victory, wellbeing, friendship or personal triumph. The stopwatch may crown one champion, yet every finisher writes her own success story.
Khatala hopes that story ends with gold.
“Crowd support always gives me an extra boost,” she explained. “Securing gold would make my family, supporters and my country, Lesotho, proud.”
Stillwater Sports Managing Director Michael Meyer believes the stage is perfectly set.
“We look forward to seeing her showcase her talent on this world-class course alongside thousands of women celebrating the joy of running.”
Totalsports Head of Marketing Nikki Crous echoed that sentiment, describing Khatala as an inspiration whose presence elevates the occasion.
As dawn breaks over Durban, the road will stretch ahead like an unwritten chapter. Khatala has sharpened every stride, polished every dream and packed every ounce of belief. The finish tape awaits. Whether it yields gold or another valuable lesson, one certainty remains. She will leave every heartbeat on the road.
