Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has opened another golden gate to the future, handing four players the keys to the kingdom for Saturday’s Nations Championship clash against Wales at Kings Park in Durban.
The green and gold jersey remains rugby’s heaviest crown, yet Jaco Williams, Vusi Moyo, Ruben van Heerden and Carlu Sadie will wear it for the first time as Erasmus continues sculpting a squad with the patience of a master craftsman and the ambition of a champion chasing another summit.
Williams and Moyo could scarcely have scripted a sweeter beginning. The Hollywoodbets Sharks duo will make their Test debuts in front of their home crowd, where every blade of grass knows their footsteps. Kings Park promises to become a cathedral of dreams as Durban embraces two of its own.

Moyo inherits the pivotal No 10 jersey, rugby’s orchestra conductor, where calm minds create chaos for opponents. Blessed with crisp distribution, composed decision-making and a fearless attacking instinct, the young playmaker has an opportunity to steer South Africa’s attack with authority alongside veteran scrumhalf Cobus Reinach.
Williams brings electricity wrapped in pace. His acceleration can split defensive walls like summer lightning, while his appetite for work off the ball adds another sharp edge to an already lethal back three featuring Kurt-Lee Arendse and Aphelele Fassi.
Van Heerden finally receives the reward many believed had long been waiting. The towering lock offers lineout excellence, relentless industry and uncompromising physicality. Alongside Cobus Wiese, he gives the Springbok engine room fresh horsepower.
Sadie completes the quartet after an outstanding season with European champions Bordeaux Begles. The powerful tighthead prop has earned a reputation for turning scrums into demolition sites while contributing tirelessly around the park.
Erasmus has again blended youthful enthusiasm with proven steel. Malcolm Marx, Damian de Allende, Jesse Kriel, Pieter-Steph du Toit and Reinach provide the steady heartbeat around the newcomers, ensuring excitement remains anchored by experience.
Injuries have ruled out Eben Etzebeth, Franco Mostert, Andre Esterhuizen, Canan Moodie, Handre Pollard and Ox Nche, although the Springboks still possess enough depth to make most international coaches green with envy.
“We told the players from the start of the season that if everything played out well, we would give everyone in the squad a chance to play in the competition, and we are excited to see what the uncapped players, as well as those who have not been in the mix for a while, bring to the team,” said Erasmus.
“This squad shows an exciting mix of youth and experience, and while we are under no illusions about the threat Wales poses, we are looking forward to seeing what these players can do.”
On the debutants, Erasmus added: “They all played very well for their franchises this season, and have been working extremely hard at training, while waiting patiently for a chance to play, so we are delighted for them.”
“Building squad depth has always been one of our pillars since 2018, and to have such an exciting group of players coming through is fantastic as we continue to build our squad for the future.”
Saturday’s contest may be another chapter in the Nations Championship, yet it also feels like the opening page of four international careers. If opportunity knocks only once, the newest Springboks have arrived with the front door already wide open.
