Sea, Stride and Spirit: Saldanha Set for a Coastal Running Celebration

The Sea Harvest Foundation Health Run is poised to transform Saldanha’s shoreline into a ribbon of running dreams on Saturday, 20 June, as athletes, families and fitness enthusiasts gather for one of the West Coast’s most picturesque road races.

Starting and finishing at Weskus Skool, participants will tackle 5km, 10km and half-marathon distances, with every route hugging the coastline like a faithful training partner. The Atlantic Ocean will be more than a backdrop. It will be a silent spectator, applauding every stride with rolling waves and salty breezes.

For runners chasing personal bests, the event offers an opportunity to test their legs on a course where sea views stretch beyond the horizon. For others, the race presents a chance to soak up the atmosphere and celebrate movement in a community setting where competition and camaraderie share the same road.

The Sea Harvest Foundation Health Run has steadily become a fixture on the regional running calendar. This year’s edition promises another festival of fitness, supported by an extensive operational and safety network. Around 100 marshals, volunteers and emergency personnel will be stationed across the route, while security, police and law enforcement officers will work throughout the day to ensure the event unfolds smoothly.

Motorists are advised to expect temporary road closures and delays along Main Road, Saldanha Road and Diaz Road. Residents are encouraged to exercise patience and support the athletes as the town briefly swaps traffic for trainers.

Parking will be available within the grounds of Weskus Skool, with overflow facilities provided at the Transnet Rugby Stadium. Participants are urged to arrive early for registration, parking and final preparations. Organisers have also reminded runners to arrive well hydrated and suitably dressed for the winter weather conditions often associated with the West Coast.

Although entries are largely sold out, a limited number of pre-registered 5km entries remain available through Franks Garden and Home.

Organiser Leonie Vorster praised the role of the local community in bringing the event to life.

“A sincere thank you to all local residents, particularly those who will be directly involved in the event. Your support and cooperation are greatly appreciated and play an important role in making the day a success.”

Kevin Lodge from Top Events, the race organising company, echoed those sentiments.

“The Sea Harvest Foundation Health Run is more than a race. It is a celebration of healthy living, community spirit and the unique beauty of the West Coast. We look forward to welcoming every participant to a safe, memorable and enjoyable event.”

On Saturday morning, the stopwatch will start ticking, the coastline will come alive and Saldanha will once again discover that a road race can be many things at once: a test of endurance, a social gathering and a moving postcard from one of South Africa’s most scenic corners.
