The 2026 Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K is shaping into a high-speed sprint for glory and gold, with athletes set to chase a lucrative prize purse on one of South Africa’s quickest road running stages.
Celebrating its ninth anniversary on Sunday, 12 July 2026, the Durban race carries the heartbeat of a championship finale, where every stride could unlock life-changing rewards. The broader Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series boasts a combined prize purse of R1 686 000 across five cities, with Durban once again expected to deliver fireworks along its flat, coastal route.

Each event on the series calendar offers R337 200 in prize money. The men’s and women’s open categories each carry R133 600, while the winners in Durban will pocket R33 000. Second place earns R24 000 and third place R21 000. Age category athletes from juniors through to the 70+ division will also race for a share of R70 000 allocated per event.
The biggest carrot dangling over the asphalt comes through the elite incentive programme. South African men who break the 27-minute barrier stand to earn a staggering R300 000 bonus, while women dipping below 30:20 can claim the same reward. New national records will add another R50 000 payday.
Additional bonuses await athletes who consistently clock elite times throughout the season.
“An impressive prize purse is a key pillar of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series, as it not only plays a vital role in attracting a competitive elite field and motivating everyday runners to push beyond their limits and deliver personal best performances, but also serves as a welcomed and deserved reward for athletes who put in the hard work and commitment to excel,” said Michael Meyer.
“With Durban’s fast, flat course, this is the one event where quick times, personal bests, and record-breaking performances are always on the cards. Durban never disappoints. We look forward to witnessing world-class racing at its best on South African soil.”
The Durban race starts on Masabalala Yengwa Avenue before charging towards the finish at Sunkist Lawns on the famous Durban Promenade.

Entries opened in March and close on 29 June 2026, unless capacity is reached earlier.
