CAPE TOWN – Mamelodi Sundowns claimed a valuable 2-0 victory over Marumo Gallants in their Betway Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday night.
The defending champions took control of the contest and were rewarded for their pressure when Malibongwe Khoza opened the scoring in the 21st minute. Gallants failed to clear their lines inside their own box, allowing Khoza to pounce and put Sundowns ahead.
Gallants attempted to find a way back into the contest after the break, but Sundowns remained composed and continued to threaten in the final third.
Their persistence paid off in the 67th minute when Cassius Mailula doubled the advantage. The forward found space inside the Gallants box before calmly burying a left-footed effort to put Sundowns firmly in control.
The visitors were unable to produce a response as Sundowns managed the remainder of the match to secure all three points in front of their home supporters.
The victory moves Sundowns into third position on the Betway Premiership log, with seven points from their opening three matches.
The result strengthens their early-season campaign as they continue their pursuit of another league title.
