CAPE TOWN – Sekhukhune United have returned to the summit of the Betway Premiership standings after securing an important victory against Kaizer Chiefs in the top of the table clash on Tuesday night.
The encounter ended in disappointment for Chiefs, as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to United at FNB Stadium, dropping crucial points that may prove costly in their bid to climb the league table.
Two goals from striker Bradley Grobler and a strike from Thabang Monare sealed victory for Eric Tinkler’s side, while Flávio Silva managed to net a consolation goal for the hosts.
The win lifted Sekhukhune to the top of the table with 16 points from six matches, while Chiefs dropped to third on 13 points, with Mamelodi Sundowns who sit second with 14 points.
Elsewhere on the night, Chippa United edged Orbit College FC 2-1, while Durban City secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Siwelele FC.
The victory lifted the Gqeberha-based side to 14th place on the log with four points, while Orbit College remains at the bottom of the standings.
The league action continues on Wednesday, with the defending champions traveling to face Marumo Gallants, AmaZulu hosting Stellenbosch FC, Polokwane City taking on Golden Arrows, and Richards Bay locking horns with TS Galaxy.
