Springbok Erasmus has said previously if all goes to plan he could be tempted to start brothers Jordan and Jaden Hendrikse as his halfbacks against Wales.
While not committing fully to its execution, Erasmus also confirmed that his aim was to give every player in the squad some game time on the tour.
After two matches, the players who have not featured so far are: Jordan Hendrikse, hooker Johan Grobbelaar and uncapped Bulls loose forward Cameron Hanekom.
With Bongi Mbonambi and Marx having done the hard yards against Scotland and England, Grobbelaar will likely get his shot on Saturday, while there has been a lot of hype surrounding the 22-year-old Hanekom since his call-up.
Because the Boks have won 10 out of 12 matches this year so far, and also won back the Rugby Championship, Saturday against Wales gives Erasmus the luxury of a rare free hit.
He can, really, pick whatever combinations his heart desires and they will still translate into a strong side, picked with future development in mind.
But he will need to balance that all with getting
over the line in another Test match, and that has been the challenge all year.
“Next week is our last match of the year,” Erasmus said.
“We’ll only see each other again in July after next week, so we would love to end on a high. But we know that when we play the Welsh it’s always a grind.
“This is going to be an important week. I think the first thing will be to select the team and then work really hard, even the guys who don’t play, and analyse Wales properly.
“From Monday morning we will do that.”
Man-of-the-match on Saturday, Cheslin Kolbe, meanwhile, says the current state of the Boks is incredibly healthy due to the amount of promise in the system.
“As a Springbok team and a country, I think we’re in a good place and there is so much young talent coming through,” he said.
“For us that have been there for a while, it’s about making sure we give our experience to the guys getting their first or second caps, to allow them to go out onto the field and express themselves.
“It doesn’t matter if you have 130 caps or one, we look at each other as equally as we can.”
