CAPE TOWN – Cape Town City midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo says joining the Cape based outfit has been the best decision he’s ever made since coming back to Europe.
Mokotjo, 33, has joined the Citizens this season after spending a season with Sekhukhune United.
“Players have a lot of potential here, so I’m very happy to be here. I’m very honoured, like I said. This is the type of environment that I wanted to come to since I returned from Europe,” said Mokotjo.
“So I’m here now, it couldn’t happen when I immediately returned but I’m here now and I’m gonna make the most out of it.”
Born in the Kutloanong Location, in the Free State, Mokotjo made over 20 caps for Bafana Bafana.
He revealed how the deal to join the City came about.
“As I said previously it was the first club that I wanted to join. We didn’t have conversations back then, but obviously, they had too many midfielders and I couldn’t make that move,” he said.
“There was a vacancy in the position that I play and I spoke to Michel Comitis, Mr John Comitis’ son.
“So the talks were ongoing for a while, and you could feel that deal already. So, as I said, I’m very honoured to be here, and I think both me and the club.”
Mokotjo has applauded Bafana Bafana under the coach Hugo Broos.
He says he hasn’t shut the door for the national team call-ups.
“I don’t think about the national team, to be honest. I do think that they’re doing a great job there, with the players that they have,” he adds.
“I feel I’m still in good shape and I still have a lot to offer. The national team is something else. I feel that they’re doing a good thing and I don’t shut the door on anything. So that’s that, but good to see them doing well.
“And if it happens, it happens. I’ll be ready. If it doesn’t, I’ll do my best for Cape Town City.”
