CALEDON – Pep Mini Netball ambassador and former Spar Proteas assistant coach Dumisani Chauke has applauded Pep for introducing programs that offer young girls opportunities to play netball.
Chauke visited Overberg Primary School in Caledon, a town in the Overberg region.
Together with Dr Elsje Jordaan, who is the Sports Scientist from Sportisimo and current Fireballs Head Coach held Pep Mini Netball coaching sessions.
Speaking to the media during her coaching sessions in the Theewaterskloof Local Municipality district, Chauke applauded Pep’s work.
“It is the sixth and final instalment of the 2024 PEP Mini Netball Coaching Session. So basically I’m here to talk, that’s number one. But in the talk we share experiences, we share knowledge, we tell stories,” said Chauke.
“We’re here to empower the Pep Mini Netball coaches that are here to learn from us, so Pep decided that they want to empower young girls and they want to do so through the sport of netball and starting at the age of seven, right up until ten, and offering them sporting opportunities.
“So the girls basically participate in various Pep mini netball festivals all across the country.
“The program offers our girls opportunities to play netball, and mostly focuses on having fun because while kids are having fun, they will fundamentally eventually learn lessons that they don’t realize that they’re learning so we’re all about having them get onto a court to have fun.”
