CAPE TOWN – Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker doesn’t see the need to make drastic changes in their MTN8 semi-final clash against Orlando Pirates.
The Cape Winelands side will welcome Pirates in the first leg of the semi-final at Athlone Stadium on Sunday.
Barker’s charges make a second visit to Athlone, just days after losing to another Soweto giant Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 in the DStv Premiership clash on Wednesday night.
He says the team doesn’t need to change much for the Pirates clash.
“So there’s not much that we need to change for our MTN8 semi-final. Obviously every week, every game, a different opposition we analyse and there will be tweaks to certain things to try and negate the opposition,” said Barker.
“So we all know Pirates are a really good team, in good form, defending champions, coming off a good win midweek.
“So there’s a lot of confidence and belief in the Pirates team, but probably they had the same belief in that when they came here at the beginning of the season.
Pirates are the defending champions having won the competition last season.
The two sides met earlier this season in the league match at Danie Craven where the home side walked away with all the points.
Barker says they know what to do and what is expected from them.
“So we just have to put in a committed, good performance and just, yeah, start taking the chances when we are on top of teams, maybe just to get that goal that just can settle us,” he said.
“So when you are on top of teams and you don’t score, you become a little bit desperate and you try maybe too hard and then you get sucker punched.
“So there’s not too many changes for Sunday’s approach. We do it our way and we’ll continue to do it our way.”
