CAPE TOWN – Bafana Bafana continued their perfect start to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifying campaign with a commanding 5-0 victory over Eritrea in Cairo on Wednesday night.
Relebohile Mofokeng was the standout performer, scoring twice to give South Africa a comfortable advantage at half-time. The young attacker opened the scoring in the 19th minute before doubling the lead in first-half stoppage time.
South Africa continued to dominate after the break, with Sphephelo Sithole adding a third goal in the 52nd minute. Iqraam Rayners then extended Bafana Bafana’s advantage in the 63rd minute, before substitute Luther Singh completed the scoring deep into stoppage time in the 90th+4 minute.
The emphatic victory gives Bafana Bafana six points from their opening two Group D qualifiers, having started their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Guinea last week.
The result also marks a second consecutive victory for head coach Pitso Mosimane since returning to the national team, giving his latest tenure a perfect start after two matches.
