CAPE TOWN – Matchday 23 of the Betway Premiership delivered a mix of dominant performances and tight contests, with the title race continuing to intensify at the top of the standings.
Orlando Pirates produced the standout performance of the round with a commanding 5-0 victory over Golden Arrows at Orlando Amstel Arena.
Relebohile Mofokeng was in superb form, netting twice in the 15th and 60th minutes, while Oswin Appollis also grabbed a brace, scoring in the 29th and 90th minutes to cap off a ruthless display from the Buccaneers.
Despite Pirates’ emphatic win, Mamelodi Sundowns remain at the summit of the log after edging Durban City 1-0 at Chatsworth Stadium. The narrow victory was enough to take Sundowns to 56 points, keeping them just ahead of Pirates, who sit second with 54 points in what is shaping up to be a thrilling title race.
Elsewhere, Magesi FC boosted their survival hopes with an impressive 3-0 win over Marumo Gallants at Seshego Stadium. However, despite the victory, they remain rooted at the bottom of the table in 16th place with 17 points after 22 matches.
Richards Bay also claimed an important result, defeating Stellenbosch FC 2-1 at Richards Bay Stadium in a closely fought encounter.
Meanwhile, Chippa United secured a narrow 1-0 win over Siwelele at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, adding valuable points to their campaign.
