Totalsports Women’s Race raises the bar with a R1-million record incentive and combined prize purse of R412,500

In the early blush of a South African winter, as the cool August breeze gathers momentum across Durban’s coastline, a thunderous rhythm of determination will echo down Snell Parade. It’s not the sound of a storm—it’s the pulse of thousands of feet, pounding in unison, chasing more than finish lines.

This is the Totalsports Women’s Race: a celebration of sisterhood, strength, and the sheer, sweat-slicked poetry of running.

This year, the race has strapped on its boldest ambition yet—a million-rand heartbeat, pulsing with possibility. For the first woman to break the Women’s Only 10km World Record on Sunday, 3 August 2025 in Durban, the finish line won’t just be a place of applause; it could be a vault into history, backed by a groundbreaking R1 million incentive.

The Totalsports Women’s Race, which began its journey in 2001, has never been content to jog in place. With the wind of change at its back, 2025’s edition is sprinting forward, promising more than medals. Event organiser Stillwater Sports has confirmed a combined prize purse of R412,500 for the three-race series, an impressive investment in athletic excellence and inclusive empowerment.

“We’re proud to announce a combined prize purse of R412,500 in 2025,” said Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “With the series taking place across three cities on three separate days, the energy and excitement is tripled.”

And what a journey it promises to be: a triumphant trilogy of races unfurling over three weeks like a ribbon through South Africa’s urban landscapes. First, Durban on 3 August, where sea spray and sun will accompany the first stride. Then Cape Town on Women’s Day, 9 August, where runners will charge down Darling Street into the historic heart of the Mother City. Finally, Johannesburg on 17 August, where altitude and adrenaline will test the mettle of every contender.

Each race in the trio will carry an equal prize purse of R137,500, ensuring that from the elite pack leaders to age category warriors, excellence is recognised across the board. The first-place finisher in the Open Category will pocket R30,000, with R20,000 for second and R15,000 for third. Special categories—from Juniors to septuagenarians—will also see the podium shine with reward.

But the prize, as Nikki Crous, Head of Marketing at Totalsports, reminds us, isn’t just about podiums and payouts.

“The prize purse is not only about celebrating the winners—it’s about honouring the dedication, perseverance, and hard work of every participant. From early morning runs to late-night training sessions, these athletes embody the spirit of commitment and passion.”

Indeed, the Totalsports Women’s Race is more than a competitive event; it’s a shared stride towards something bigger. With every kilometer, runners raise awareness and funds for PinkDrive, a non-profit organisation dedicated to breast cancer education and free medical services. In every pink ribbon tied to a shoelace, a story of survival, support, and sisterhood unspools.

Stillwater Sports’ Michael Meyer sums it up best:

“We’re proud to elevate the celebration of women by offering an impressive prize purse, featuring elite athlete participation and a World Record Incentive Bonus. We are committed to advancing women’s road running in South Africa, while striving to ensure a memorable and empowering race experience for all.”

In 2025, the Totalsports Women’s Race isn’t just running races—it’s running a movement. Whether you’re gunning for glory or running in memory, every step is a verse in a larger anthem of women rising.

So lace up. The countdown has begun. Whether in Durban’s coastal dawn, Cape Town’s cityscape shadows, or Johannesburg’s crisp highveld air—this August, women will run the streets not just with strength, but with purpose.

And if the wind is just right, history might run with them.
