DHL STADIUM – Fired up Springbok Sevens have progressed to Cape Town 7s semi finals following their 29-5 win over Argentina on Saturday.
Philip Snyman’s charges secured their second win of day one after defeating the HSBC World SVNS Series winners.
Tries from Ricardo Duarttee, Dewald Human, Shilton van Wyk and Shaun Williams saw the home side put themselves one step closer to the final spot.
Van Wyk believes the team had a good plan preparing for the tournament on home soil.
“We came out with a plan, we did say we want to top up the pool, that’s the first thing. So we all just stick to that, the whole team just sticks to that and buys into the system,” said van Wyk.
“The guys are excited to be in the semi-finals again, and I hope tomorrow we can just go better.
“Sometimes it seems like you’re giving it your all, just bouncing your way.”
Earlier the Blitzboks overpowered Ireland’s side. Set to face Spain in the other semi-final at 13:56, van Wyk knows what’s waiting for them on Sunday.
“We had a good week of preparation, we told ourselves it’s not going to be easy, but we prepared for the worst,” he said.
“Today, we came out with a plan. We fight with each other, and we stick to each other. We stick to the plan.
“So hopefully tomorrow we can do the same.”
Earlier South Africa overpowered Ireland 36-7.
The Blitzboks will face Spain in the Cup semi-finals at 13:56 on Sunday. The other semi-final is between Fiji and France at 14:18.
