Gerda Steyn’s record book already reads like a marathoner’s fairy tale written in permanent ink. The 36-year-old has conquered Comrades four times, claimed an unprecedented seven consecutive Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon titles and shattered records with the enthusiasm of a runner splashing through puddles on a rainy training run.
“Coach Stick is an inspiration. He has worked extremely hard to prepare for this race. He trains every day has shed a whopping 22kg’s in the process. That in itself is already an awesome achievement and speaks volumes of his discipline and dedication,” said Springbok captain Siya Kolisi.
Maxime Chaumeton and Tayla Kavanagh lit up Cape Town with record-breaking runs at the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon 10km Peace Run. Chaumeton clocked 27:41 while Kavanagh stormed to a third straight title in 31:25.
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon continues its bid to become the continent’s first Abbott World Marathon Majors event, alongside races in New York, Boston, Berlin, Chicago, Tokyo, Sydney and London.
