Plaatjies hat-trick inspires Stellenbosch to first Betway Premiership win

The home side made a blistering start, with Quwan Plaatjies announcing himself on the professional stage in spectacular fashion. Making his professional debut, the youngster opened his account in the 13th minute, giving Stellenbosch an early advantage.

Plaatjies was far from finished. Just 15 minutes later, he found the back of the net again to complete his brace and put Stellies firmly in control.

The hosts carried their 2-0 lead into the half-time break, with Gallants struggling to contain the lively Cape Winelands side attack.

The debutant continued his dream evening after the restart, completing his hat-trick in the 54th minute to put Gavin Hunt side three goals ahead and cap a remarkable individual performance on his first professional appearance.

Gallants managed to pull one back in the 81st minute through Thapelo Dhludhlu, but it proved little more than a consolation as Stellenbosch comfortably saw out the remaining minutes.

The victory marks Stellenbosch’s first win of the season after opening their campaign with one defeat and one draw. More importantly, it was a night to remember for Plaatjies, whose hat-trick on debut announced his arrival in emphatic fashion.
