Stormers hammer Glasgow to seal URC top spot

The Stormers turned a top-of-the-table showdown into a statement of supremacy, dismantling the Glasgow Warriors 48-12 in a one-sided United Rugby Championship clash in Cape Town.
Roared on by 23,740 supporters, John Dobson’s side surged clear at the summit, delivering a performance that crackled with intensity and attacking flair.

From the opening whistle, the Stormers played like a team with thunder in their boots. Loosehead prop Ntuthuko Mchunu struck twice inside 15 minutes, barging over with the force of a runaway scrum to hand the hosts early momentum. Flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu added the extras and an earlier penalty as the scoreboard raced to 17-0.

Glasgow, under Franco Smith, refused to fold. Wing Ollie Smith finished sharply in the corner to cut the deficit, but the Stormers responded with a flash of lightning. Number eight Evan Roos exploded through a fractured defence, sprinting clear to restore control at 24-5.

The visitors showed their pedigree with a well-worked maul try finished by hooker Gregor Hiddleston, with Adam Hastings converting to make it 24-12 at the break. Yet that proved a brief flicker in an otherwise relentless Stormers storm.

After halftime, captain Ruhan Nel powered over for the bonus-point try, stretching the lead to 34-12 as Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s boot remained ice-cold. The cushion allowed Dobson to unleash teenage prodigy Markus Muller, the youngest debutant in franchise history, in the closing stages.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu then marked his 50th appearance in style, slicing through for a try that underlined his growing influence. Replacement loose forward Keke Morabe added the final hammer blow, crashing over as the Warriors’ resistance finally crumbled. The flyhalf finished with a dazzling 26-point haul, steering the Stormers like a seasoned general.

Mchunu’s early double earned him Man of the Match honours, his scrummaging power and close-range finishing setting the tone for a dominant display that rarely loosened its grip.

The result cements the Stormers as the team to beat heading into the knockout stages, their performance a blend of brute force and surgical precision. For Glasgow, the defeat serves as a reminder that even league leaders can be swept aside when the Cape side finds its rhythm.
