CAPE TOWN – Flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is on the brink of a milestone as he approaches 50 caps for the Stormers ahead of their crucial United Rugby Championship (URC) clash against Glasgow Warriors at DHL Stadium this Saturday.
The Stormers will be eager to bounce back after a disappointing 24-33 defeat to Connacht at the same venue last weekend.
Despite the setback, John Dobson’s side remain in a strong position, sitting second on the log with 51 points after 15 matches, just four behind league leaders Glasgow.
Reflecting on his journey with the Cape side, Feinberg-Mngomezulu highlighted the significance of reaching the milestone at franchise level.
“I’ve put a lot of energy into the club and had a couple of setbacks, so I’m very happy to be where I am,” said Feinberg-Mngomezulu.
“I think often guys will look at the Springbok rugby and think that’s where everyone’s core development happens and it actually happens at home at the franchise. So I’m actually just kind of honoured to just raise the half century back just to kind of acknowledge all the work that was done here from day one at 18, 19 years old, so now 24 years old.
“It’s been quite a while, so yeah, I’m just happy that that’s represented in my caps for a franchise I care a lot about.”
With a high-stakes encounter looming, the flyhalf emphasised the importance of delivering a strong performance against quality opposition like Glasgow Warriors.
“I mean, it goes without saying that we’ve got our backs sort of against the ropes in a great position to be in,” he said.
“So I think we all just understand the importance of this fixture, whether it be four or five points, whatever we can do to get over the line and bank all those points that you said are necessary at home.
“I think they’re good opposition – they’ve got a good coach who seems to understand how we play. So I just hope that we bring our A game and we can disrupt them in many facets of the game.”
