Hollywood AC lands Comrades royalty as Mothibi and Dijana go Purple

Durban – Like a perfectly timed surge in the final kilometres, Hollywood Athletics Club has made a decisive move, officially inducting ultra-marathon heavyweights Edward Mothibi and Tete Dijana into its purple ranks.

The double signing strengthens Hollywood AC’s reputation as a powerhouse of endurance running, where elite performance is paced alongside athlete wellbeing, community upliftment and long-term sustainability. It is a statement stride in a changing athletics landscape, bold, measured and full of intent.

Both athletes are synonymous with the unforgiving hills and history of the Comrades Marathon, the ultimate test of grit and grace. More than medal collectors, Mothibi and Dijana arrive with reputations built on professionalism, humility and a team-first mindset. These qualities have already seen them embraced as part of the club’s famously upbeat “happy bunch”.

Experience Meets Endurance

Mothibi, the 2019 Comrades champion, adds seasoned strength to the stable. ‘Slender’ as he is affectionately known, brings multiple Comrades podiums and international credibility, including a top-five finish at the World 50km Championships. Balancing elite sport with his work at Impala Mines, he continues to mentor emerging runners in Rustenburg.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the club,” said Mothibi.

“I’ve seen the purple spirit, and I’m excited to be part of it. It’s clearly a growing club that truly respects its athletes.”

A Modern Comrades Giant

Dijana joins as one of the most dominant ultra-runners of his era. A three-time Comrades champion (2022, 2023, 2025), his racing style blends tactical patience with a devastating late kick, much like a runner finding an extra gear when others fade.

Beyond Comrades, he has delivered consistent podium performances over 50km and remains deeply involved in athlete development around Mafikeng, while working as a security officer at North-West University.

“I’m very happy to be joining the club and I’m looking forward to competing in the purple colours,” Dijana said.

Culture, Not Just Contracts

Hollywood AC Chairman Greg Glossop said the signings reflect more than just results on a spreadsheet.

“We are excited to welcome Edward and Tete to the club. They also bring along Coach Adams and their wider team, which is fantastic,” said Glossop.

“They are champions with immense experience and a genuine passion for developing other athletes. From the first few days, it’s been clear they bring great energy and togetherness, and we look forward to supporting them in their goals for 2026.”

As South African road running continues its rapid evolution, the arrival of Mothibi and Dijana further cements Hollywood Athletics Club’s status.

The club is regarded as a competitive force as well as a true home for runners who value excellence, unity and community impact. Like a well-run ultra, the club is building for the long road ahead.
