AmaZulu frustrate Chiefs in stalemate at FNB Stadium

CAPE TOWN – Kaizer Chiefs were held to a 1-1 stalemate by AmaZulu in their Betway Premiership midweek clash at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening, as both sides battled hard in an evenly contested encounter and ultimately had to settle for a point apiece.

A 21st-minute header from Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya handed the KwaZulu-Natal based side an early advantage, but Chiefs quickly responded as Mduduzi Shabalala’s superb 32nd-minute volley brought the score level.

With the draw, the Soweto giants moved their tally to 15 points from eight matches played, a results that sees them occupy fifth place on the log standings as the race for the top positions begins to intensify.

Meanwhile, Usuthu, find themselves in ninth position with 12 points to their name, having registered three wins, three draws, and two defeats from their opening eight matches.

In other midweek results, Orlando Pirates secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night, further strengthening their campaign with an impressive performance in front of their home supporters.

Goals from Evidence Makgopa and Tshegofatso Mabasa proved decisive as Pirates walked away with all three points, a result that lifted the Buccaneers into third position on the log standings and kept them firmly in the early title race.
