CAPE TOWN – Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker Lucas Ribeiro Costa stole the spotlight at the 2024/25 PSL Awards, claiming four major accolades on Tuesday night.
On a night filled with anticipation, as the Premier Soccer League (PSL) honoured the top performers of the 2024/25 season, Costa and Orlando Pirates superstar Relebohile Mofokeng emerged as the big winners.
Costa was crowned PSL Footballer of the Season and also walked away with three more major awards, the Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season, Goal of the Season, and Top Goal Scorer awards.
Following a standout season with Orlando Pirates, 20-year-old Relebohile Mofokeng walked away with the Betway Premiership Young Player of the Season and the MTN8 Last Man Standing awards.
It didn’t end there for the league champions, as Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso who took over the reins from Manqoba Mngqithi in December was also crowned Betway Premiership Coach of the Season.
Pirates trio Sipho Chaine, Nkosinathi Sibisi, and Makhehleni Makhaula secured the Betway Premiership Goalkeeper, Defender, and Midfielder of the Season awards, respectively.
Following their historic 2-1 victory over Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates to claim the 2025 Nedbank Cup and end a decade-long trophy drought in May, Kaizer Chiefs winger Pule Mmodi was named Player of the Tournament.
Pirates’ Mbekezeli Mbokazi was recognised as the Most Promising Player of the Tournament, while Magesi FC’s Elvis Chipezeze received the Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament accolade for his standout performances.
In the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Muzomuhle Khanyi was rewarded for his outstanding season with Hungry Lions, winning both the Players’ Player of the Season and the Top Goal Scorer awards.
Teboho Lekhatla of Casric Stars was named the Young Player of the Season winner, while Dumsani Msibi of Durban City was recognised as the division’s Goalkeeper of the Season.
In the DStv Diski Challenge categories, Tylon Smith of Stellenbosch FC was named Player of the Season, while Orlando Pirates striker Siphamandla Msezane claimed the Top Goal Scorer award.
Match officials were also acknowledged, with Kgara Mokoena and Masixole Bambiso receiving the Assistant Referee and Referee of the Season awards, respectively.
