SPAR Women’s Challenge Jozi Unleashes the Power of the Pack

In a city that never slows down, thousands of determined women are gearing up to chase purpose over pavement in the final leg of the 2025 SPAR Women’s Challenge Grand Prix. Come Sunday, 5 October, Marks Park Sports Club in Emmarentia will transform into a kaleidoscope of energy, unity, and unshakable grit as Jozi’s runners lace up to #Twenty20Thrive.

Like marathoners drawing breath before the final mile, defending champion Glenrose Xaba is ready to dig deep and defend both her SPAR Grand Prix crown and her title on home tar.

“I’m looking forward to running in front of the Jozi crowd again—it’s where I thrive,” she says, eyeing the finishing tape like a sprinter spotting daylight.

But this is more than a race—it’s a rhythmic rebellion against limits, a 10km drumbeat of resilience echoing through the city streets.

Themed #Twenty20Thrive, this year’s run celebrates women not just enduring but flourishing—in their careers, families, and communities, no matter what life hurls their way.

“This event is not only a celebration of fitness and fun, but also of community,” says Maxine D’Amico, Promotions & Advertising Manager for SPAR Inland.

“Through our My Jozi My SPAR campaign, we’re creating platforms where women can thrive—on the road, in sport and in life.”

And thrive they will. Every R180 (or R240 with a temporary ASA license) entry buys not just a race bib and slick moisture-management tee—it’s a ticket to solidarity, a chance to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with a city of sisters. Proceeds will uplift three critical causes:

  • Reach For Recovery (breast cancer support)
  • Leaf Line and Komani (both tackling period poverty and youth wellness)

This is where sport becomes service, and each stride carries purpose beyond the finish line.

Netball legend and SPAR ambassador Bongi Msomi underscores the heart of the event:

“The SPAR Women’s Challenge is more than just a race—it’s a celebration of women, community, and strength. As someone who’s experienced SPAR’s unwavering commitment to women’s sport, I’m inspired to see how they continue to uplift and empower through events like this.”

As the sun rises over Emmarentia’s tree-lined course, the race will pulse with more than just footfalls—it will beat with the backing of vibrant partners like HokaNPL, and Benefit Makeup, with Hyundai and Powerade fueling the broader series nationwide.

“We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors and partners whose support ensures that we can create a world-class experience,” adds Cornel Steyn, SPAR South Rand Sponsorship Controller.

“Their contributions allow us to go the extra mile.”

And speaking of miles—someone will walk (or run) away with more than sore calves. A brand-new Hyundai Exter awaits one lucky participant, simply for showing up and joining in.

In Jozi, this challenge is not just a run—it’s a movement in motion, a chance to show that thriving isn’t just a hashtag; it’s a heartbeat.

Whether you’re chasing a PB, powerwalking with your tribe, or cheering from the sidelines—this is your race, your pace, your power. Thrive on.
