Totalsports Women’s Race 2025 unveils scenic routes and record-breaking dreams

Like a stream of bright-coloured butterflies ready to flutter across three of South Africa’s most iconic cityscapes, the 2025 Totalsports Women’s Race is gearing up to turn pavements into runways of empowerment, unity, and celebration.

With scenic 5km and 10km routes winding through Durban, Cape Town, and Johannesburg this August, this isn’t just a race—it’s a national festival of feminine strength and stride.

South Africa’s largest Women’s Month celebration kicks off on Sunday, 3 August in the tropical heartbeat of  Durban, where the air hums with coastal rhythm and the tarmac begs for fast feet.

The route—fast, flat, and flying past landmarks like Moses Mabhida Stadium—starts and ends at the Suncoast Casino, inviting both elite athletes and joyful joggers to chase glory or simply savour the sunrise.

But this year, there’s more than medals at stake.

“The 10km race in Durban will be unlike any other,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of  Stillwater Sports.

“We’re offering a R1 million incentive for the first female athlete to break the Women’s Only 10km World Record. It’s a bold move to elevate women’s road running and attract top international talent. We’re excited to witness world-class women’s racing in Durban.”

From the Indian Ocean to the foot of the majestic Table Mountain, the series sweeps into the Mother City on Saturday, 9 AugustNational Women’s Day.

As if stitched from the city’s soul, the Cape Town course meanders from Darling Street to the Grand Parade, passing beneath the towering statue of Nelson Mandela like a torch of resilience passed from one generation to the next.

“It’s a little hillier than Durban’s course,” Meyer notes with a grin, “but the views—Table Mountain, City Hall, and the colourful, cheering crowds—will take your breath away in more ways than one.”

As always, the race will be a feast for the senses. Sponsor activations from Totalsports, Nike, Foschini Beauty, Absa, Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages, and Heart FM will sprinkle the event with music, pampering, and energy as runners write their own Women’s Day stories with every stride.

The final chapter unfolds in the City of Gold  on Sunday, 17 August, where Johannesburg dares runners to dig deep and rise high.

“Joburg arguably presents the toughest course of the three,” Meyer admits.

“The route starts on  Orange Road and finishes at  Marks Park in Emmarentia. The hills are real, but so is the reward. Watching the elite athletes conquer this course is incredibly inspiring. For everyone else, it’s about pacing yourself and enjoying the journey.”

And for newcomers or those more interested in the camaraderie than the clock, each city’s 5km route offers a gentler introduction to the joy of movement, whether walked, jogged, or run.

“Each of the three routes has its own unique charm and character,” says Nikki Crous, Head of Marketing at Totalsports.

“Whether you’re enjoying the flat beachfront in Durban, taking on the scenic hills of Cape Town, or powering through the vibrant streets of Joburg, every step is a celebration of strength, community, and the spirit of Women’s Month.”

And it’s not just about running—it’s about giving back. The Totalsports Women’s Race proudly supports PinkDrive, the non-profit organisation offering breast cancer awareness, education, and medical services to those in need. In every beat of each runner’s heart, there’s a shared rhythm for hope and healing.

“More than just a race,” Meyer concludes, “this is a movement.  A celebration of strength, unity, and the incredible spirit of South African women. We encourage everyone—regardless of age or fitness level—to join us. Together, we run in support of health, empowerment, and community.”

So, lace up. Whether you’re sprinting for the podium or strolling with a purpose, the Totalsports Women’s Race invites you to turn every step into a statement—and every stride into a symbol of South African sisterhood.
