Boxer Athletic Club re-signs celebrated elite athletes and welcome emerging talent

Cape Town – South Africa’s top long-distance athletes Elroy Gelant and Glenrose Xaba have committed to another season with Boxer Athletic Club (AC), alongside several other prominent athletes.

This strategic move signals the club’s plans to continue excelling across a range of athletics events in 2025.

Boxer AC has also retained celebrated athletes such as Cacisile Sosibo, Precious Mashele, Kabelo Mulaudzi, Chris Mhlanga, and the Phalula sisters, Lebo and Lebogang.

In addition, the club has welcomed rising stars Andries Sesedi, Karabo More, and Karabo Motsoeneng, all of whom are expected to make an immediate impact.

Gelant, the 38-year-old from Pacaltsdorp outside George, emphasized the vital role Boxer AC has played in his development, citing its exceptional resources and supportive environment.

His goals for 2025 include defending his national title at the SA 21km Championships and competing at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in San Diego.

Gelant, who has been with Boxer AC for nine years, shared his excitement about continuing with the club.

“Re-signing reflects my commitment to a team that has been instrumental in my growth,” says Gelant.

“Being part of Boxer AC allows me to continually refine my skills in a supportive environment. The resources provided by the club have played a critical role in my development as a world-class athlete.

“The camaraderie among my teammates inspires me to push harder and challenge myself. In 2025, I aim to elevate my performance, defending my national title at the SA 21km Championships and competing in the World Athletics Road Running Championships in San Diego.”

Gelant’s dedication extends beyond competition, as he is passionate about giving back to the community.

“I look forward to inspiring young athletes through outreach programs, motivating them to chase their dreams in sports. My relationship with Boxer AC drives me to strive for excellence in all aspects, and I’m excited about the opportunities and challenges in 2025.”

Glenrose Xaba, who had a standout 2024 season, including setting a new national record in her Cape Town Marathon debut, expressed her gratitude for Boxer AC’s support.
