CAPE TOWN – Mamelodi Sundowns strengthened their position at the top of the Betway Premiership standings with a convincing 4-1 victory over Richards Bay, while defending champions Orlando Pirates secured a comfortable win over TS Galaxy on Tuesday.
At Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban, the league leaders showcased their attacking quality to claim all three points against Richards Bay. Sundowns now sit top of the log with 23 points from nine matches.
Meanwhile, at Orlando Amstel Arena in Soweto, Orlando Pirates delivered an impressive performance to defeat TS Galaxy 3-0.
The defending champions collected maximum points to keep the pressure on the leaders, occupying second place with 22 points from eight matches. With a game in hand and just one point separating the two sides, the title race remains finely poised.
In the KwaZulu-Natal derby at Chatsworth Stadium, AmaZulu edged Durban City 2-1 in a closely contested encounter.
Usuthu claimed local bragging rights and three valuable points as the battle for league positions continued.
Durban City, meanwhile, were left disappointed after failing to capitalise on home advantage, with AmaZulu doing enough to secure the victory.
Elsewhere, Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC played out a 1-1 draw. Both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils after neither could find a decisive breakthrough to claim all three points.
