CAPE TOWN – Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has beefed up his technical staff as the countdown to Saturday’s 2027 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea at Johannesburg’s Orlando Stadium continues.
Marcus Mashilo joins the camp as the new goalkeeper coach, Tshepo Mahao will be assistant analyst while Goolam Valodia is the opposition analyst during the three-match camp that begins with the AFCON qualifier against Guinea.
“The technical team is complete now. We have got Marcus Mashilo to help us as the goalkeeper coach. Marcus is very experienced and he worked with me at Mamelodi Sundowns. He also worked with coach Manqoba Mngqithi and coach Rhulani Mokwena,” Mosimane said.
Bafana Bafana assembled in camp in Johannesburg Sunday night ahead the 2027 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea this month. Several players arrived last night after playing for their clubs around the country.
Samukele Kabini arrived in camp on Monday morning after traveling from Norway overnight. Puso Dithejane arrived from the United States of America just before dinner on Monday night after travelling from Chicago.
Relebohile Mofokeng, Ime Okon, Olwethu Makhanya, Shandre Campbell, Thapelo Maseko and Sphephelo Sithole are expected in camp later on Monday night.
Mosimane revealed that Lebohang Maboe has a niggling injury and did not train with the rest of the players on Monday. He will be monitored by the medical staff in the coming days.
The South African senior men’s national team will open their AFCON qualifying campaign when they host the Guineans at Johannesburg’s Orlando Stadium.
Following that opening AFCON assignment against Guinea, the South Africa senior men’s national team will then face Eritrea at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo, Egypt, in the second group match on Wednesday, 30 September 2026. The South Africans will wrap up their assignments on the road with an international friendly match against Egypt at Cairo International Stadium on 4 October 2026.
