CAPE TOWN – Stellenbosch FC showed late character to rescue a point in their Betway Premiership encounter against Sekhukhune United at Athlone Stadium on Friday night.
The visitors looked set to walk away with all three points after Bethuel Muzeu broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute. Muzeu’s strike put Sekhukhune in front and left Stellenbosch with a difficult task as the match entered its final stages.
Stellies refused to give up, however, and continued searching for a way back into the contest. Their pressure eventually paid off in the 87th minute when experienced striker Bradley Grobler found the equaliser to make it 1-1.
The late goal sparked relief for the home side, who had appeared destined to suffer a narrow defeat before Grobler’s intervention.
After six matches, Stellies sit eighth on the Betway Premiership standings with six points.
