CAPE TOWN – Defending Betway Premiership champions Orlando Pirates continued their strong start to the season with a convincing 4-0 victory over Kruger United at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday night.
Pirates wasted little time taking control, with Gamphani Lungu opening the scoring from the penalty spot in the fourth minute. Boitumelo Radiopane doubled their advantage nine minutes after the restart, putting the Buccaneers firmly in command.
Yanela Mbuthuma then put the result beyond doubt with two late goals. The forward struck in the 79th minute before completing his brace in stoppage time at 90+2 as Pirates cruised to a comprehensive victory.
The result sees Pirates move to the summit of the Betway Premiership standings with 13 points from five matches, underlining their impressive early-season form as they look to defend their title.
Elsewhere, Durban City and Stellenbosch FC could not find a breakthrough as they played to a goalless draw at Chartworth Stadium.
The result means both sides had to settle for a point from a tightly contested encounter, with neither able to produce the decisive moment in front of goal.
