CAPE TOWN – The Betway Premiership title race will go down to the final weekend of the season after Orlando Pirates were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Durban City at Orlando Amstel Arena in Soweto on Saturday afternoon.
Pirates entered the encounter knowing that victory would crown them 2025/26 league champions following Mamelodi Sundowns completing their campaign midweek at the top of the standings. With two games still in hand, the Buccaneers had the perfect opportunity to take control of the title race but failed to break down a resilient Durban City side.
The result leaves the Soweto giants on 66 points, just two behind Sundowns with one match remaining. Pirates must now beat Orbit College at Mbombela Stadium next week to snatch the title. Anything less than three points will see Sundowns successfully defend their crown.
Meanwhile, in the Western Cape, Stellenbosch FC boosted their hopes of a top-eight finish with a crucial 2-0 victory over Orbit College at Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.
Chumani Butsaka was the star of the show, opening the scoring in the third minute before completing his brace in the 66th minute to hand Stellies all three points. The victory moved Stellenbosch into ninth position on 36 points with one game remaining, while Orbit College remain 15th on 24 points and deep in relegation trouble.
Elsewhere, Kaizer Chiefs cemented third place with a narrow 1-0 victory over AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium thanks to Makabi Lilepo’s 67th-minute strike. Amakhosi are now 10 points clear of fourth-placed Usuthu.
Golden Arrows defeated struggling Chippa United 2-0, leaving Chippa hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.
In other results, Polokwane City drew 1-1 with Marumo Gallants, Richards Bay shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United, while Siwelele FC edged Magesi 1-0.
With relegation and the title race both still undecided, the final weekend promises high drama across the league.
