Chad le Clos will contest the 8-Mile Charity Challenge at the 2026 aQuellé Midmar Mile, joining swimmers raising funds for the Chad le Clos Foundation.
The 2012 Olympic champion, who has rarely competed at the event, said he is looking forward to taking a larger role.
“I’m very excited. To be honest, I haven’t swum much at Midmar… I just really love to be there. From the Thursday through to the Sunday, it’s just a great weekend,” he said.
Le Clos praised the event’s inclusivity.
“What’s quite unique about Midmar is that it seems to grow every year… everybody of all ages gets the opportunity to compete. You can be in your 80s. It’s incredible.”
Returning from a lengthy injury recovery, Le Clos has his sights on qualifying for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, but said the charity swim offers deeper motivation.

“In terms of the foundation, it’s been a huge blessing… last year we raised a decent amount of money,” he said.
He will swim one mile with each participant fundraising for his foundation.
“I’m going to be doing a mile with each… just trying to be the best I can, for the kids,” he added.
The 53rd aQuellé Midmar Mile takes place from 5–8 February 2026.
