PEP Mini-Netball transforms Kanana Primary with R200k court upgrade

PEP Mini-Netball delivered a game-changing assist this week, handing over a newly refurbished netball court to Kanana Primary School in Orkney with the upgrade gleaming like a fresh centre pass under summer sun.

The R200,000 makeover, part of the inaugural Dumis’s Choice initiative powered by PEP, transformed the ageing surface into a vibrant, competition-ready court complete with new line markings, sturdy poles, secure fencing, and fresh balls and bibs for the rising stars who call it home.

On 26 November, the school community gathered courtside. The leaders, teachers, parents, media, and the buzzing school teams were all there to witness the moment Kanana’s dreams finally hit the target.

Netball legend and PEP Mini-Netball ambassador Dumisani Chauke led the celebrations with a spirited coaching clinic, charging the court with the same electricity she once brought to the national stage.

Chauke, herself once a hopeful young player on a dusty court, understood the magnitude of the moment.

“I come from a small town of Malamulele, deep in Limpopo, so I know what it means when a community invests in its girls,” she said.

“Sport teaches confidence, leadership and provides a sense of belonging, and every child deserves access to that.

“Kanana’s young players now have a court that matches their potential, and I’m honoured to be part of their journey and story together with PEP.”

For Kanana Primary School Principal Mr TG Mabaso, the court is more than painted lines and fencing, it’s a springboard for possibility.

“This court is more than an upgrade; it changes what is possible for our learners,” Mabaso said.

“It strengthens the school, uplifts the surrounding community and gives our grassroots netball programme a real foundation to grow.

“We are deeply grateful to PEP mini-Netball and Dumisani for seeing value in our children and investing in their future.”

The handover marks another confident pass in PEP mini-Netball’s mission to expand safe sporting spaces and empower girls nationwide.

This is proof that when the community rallies, young athletes can shoot for far more than just the hoop.
