Arrows stun Sundowns in midweek Betway Prem clash

CAPE TOWN – Golden Arrows pulled off a stunning upset in the midweek Betway Premiership fixtures, shocking defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns with a spirited performance that handed the Tshwane giants a rare and unexpected defeat.

A solitary 30th-minute strike from Sede Junior Dion proved to be the difference, as Manqoba Mngqithi’s side held their ground and walked away with a valuable three points.

The hard-fought victory lifted Arrows up to 11th place on the league table with 10 points collected from their opening eight matches, while Sundowns, despite the setback, remain firmly in second position on 18 points – just two adrift of current log leaders Sekhukhune United.

Elsewhere in the league, Kaizer Chiefs’ new signing Khanyisa Mayo wasted no time in making his mark as he opened his Amakhosi goal account in last night’s clash at the FNB Stadium.

However, Chiefs were unable to hold onto their lead, as Marumo Gallants striker Jaisen Jaren Clifford struck in the 75th minute to cancel out Mayo’s opener and secure a valuable point for his side in the tightly contested 1-1 draw.

Sekhukhune were held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, but the result was still enough for them to remain firmly at the summit of the log with 20 points.
