CAPE TOWN – Stellenbosch FC defender Unathi Omega Mdaka has looked back on the personal and team’s performances last season as they prepare for the high-stakes MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates at Mbombela Stadium.
The Cape Winelands side will once again take to the big stage as they prepare for another MTN8 final, determined to learn from last year’s mistakes and claim the trophy this time around.
Mdaka shared that he has put in tremendous personal effort to reach this stage of his career and is confident that, with the lessons learned from last season, things will be different this time around.
“For me, if I’m being honest, it hasn’t been an easy one looking at the person who was in my position,” said Omega.
“For me, it’s about learning, just working hard behind the person who was in front of me.
“And then obviously looking at the final last season, it wasn’t a good feeling. So for me, it’s just about going out as a team, working hard to actually get this silverware.
“Like I said, it will help us a lot in the league going forward.”
Having joined Stellies ahead of the 2024/25 season, the 22-year-old described signing with the club as a dream come true.
“For me personally, I’ve played against Stellenbosch in DDC and I’ve seen the players that they produce,” he said.
“I thought, why not come to such a club that is obviously going to give me a chance to also showcase my talent.
“So it wasn’t really anything too much, I never thought about it – I always wanted to come here also to be better myself.”
