Durban’s streets are set to come alive on Sunday, 12 October 2025, as the Boxer Super Run Durban officially reached its 5,000-runner capacity in record time, selling out less than a month after entries opened.
Dubbed South Africa’s most social 5km, the event has struck a perfect balance between fun and competition
“The phenomenal response once again highlights the appeal of the 5km distance,” said Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports, noting how the race celebrates both community and performance.
For Boxer Superstores, the event holds sentimental value.
“KwaZulu-Natal is where our journey began 48 years ago,” said Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Marketing.
“We’re thrilled to see so many runners embracing this celebration of fitness, fun, and togetherness.”
The Boxer Super Run Durban will start from Snell Parade near Blue Lagoon Park, with waves catering for everyone.
The early-bird masses starts at 07:00 with the super-social groups in costume between 08:00–09:30.
The spotlight then shifts to the elite women at 09:45 and elite men at 10:00.
With a R147,200 prize purse, the stakes are high. Winners of the men’s and women’s elite races will each pocket R20,000, while age-category athletes in the open waves will also be rewarded.
Last year’s edition saw Precious Mashele scorch through Durban in 13:39, the fastest 5km ever run on South African soil, while Karabo More stormed to women’s victory in 16:16.
Mashele, who used his winnings to build his home in Limpopo, reflected:
“The competition and prize money make this event unique. It’s not just a race, it’s life-changing.”
With entries now closed and excitement at fever pitch, Durban is ready to host a festival of fitness.
Elite speedsters, weekend warriors, and colourful social squads will share one finish line, one medal, and one unforgettable celebration of movement.
