Heritage Day Dash: Seloyi eyes Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K Podium

Bennet Seloyi is sprinting into the golden stretch of his season, eyes fixed on the glittering prize of a first-ever podium at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K this Heritage Day, 24 September 2025.

After storming to fourth in Durban and sixth in Tshwane, the 24-year-old is running with the wind at his back, his confidence swelling like a finishing kick down the home straight.

The Boxer Athletics Club star has turned 2025 into his breakthrough lap, slicing his 10km best twice and finally dipping under the magical 29-minute mark.

His 28:12 personal best in Durban was no ordinary run. It saw him stride past giants like Stephen Mokoka and Thabang Mosiako, proving that he belongs in the lead pack.

Seloyi credits his rise to coach Best Ngwenya and his United Training Club teammates, who sharpened his speed with 10km races designed to fuel his ultimate marathon ambitions.

Already the reigning SA Marathon Champion with a 2:17:11 best, he now hopes to carry his surging form into Johannesburg’s thin, demanding air, where strength counts as much as speed.

“I’ve tested myself on every Absa course and finished inside the top ten,” Seloyi says, his words charged with the urgency of a man chasing the tape.

“Now I want the podium. I have to force it—there’s no turning back.”

Michael Meyer, Series Founder and Managing Director of Stillwater Sports, calls Seloyi’s journey “spectacular to witness.”

Meyer applauds the athlete’s growth as a shining example of how the Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES is shaping champions.

With a total prize purse of R1.61 million across the five races and special incentives for South Africans who smash through barriers, the stakes are as high as Joburg’s altitude.

But for Seloyi, this isn’t just about money; it’s about breaking through the tape of possibility and claiming his rightful place among the city’s golden greats.
