CAPE TOWN – Bafana Bafana have been putting in the hard work at training as they gear up for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho on Friday.
South Africa will take on Lesotho at the Free State Stadium on Friday before hosting Nigeria at the same venue on Tuesday next week.
Captain Ronwen Williams admitted that his side has thoroughly done their homework and is well prepared for tonight’s clash.
“We’re back in camp again, it’s a new squad, different faces, a lot of new faces, but the preparation has been good,” said Williams.
“All the new guys have settled in, we’ve done amazing work throughout the week, back in Johannesburg. We’re looking forward to getting the job done tomorrow [Friday].
“We know how important this game is and what it can do for the qualification for the World Cup, and this is the next step for our objective, which is to be at the World Cup.
“So everything has been going well.”
Hugo Broos’s side sits at the top of Group C after six matches, having recorded four wins, one draw, and just one defeat.
With Bafana Bafana’s return to Bloemfontein, Williams emphasize the importance of the two upcoming matches at the Free State Stadium and how the team is focused on delivering strong performances to boost their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.
“It’s obviously nice coming here. We know the crowd can give that extra motivation, we have good memories playing last year in Zimbabwe,” he said.
“So hopefully the crowd can come out once again and give that extra motivation. That’s the only thing we need for these two key games.
“It’s two massive wins in this group and positive results for us in both games.
“That’s one foot on the plane to America – so we’re excited to be back here, we’re actually looking forward to doing the business against Lesotho.”
The match kicks off at 18:00 and will be broadcast live on SABC Sport.
