Chiefs announce the signing of Khanyisa Mayo

CAPE TOWN – Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the signing of former Cape Town City winger Khanyisa Mayo, bolstering their squad this season.

Chiefs announced on Friday that 27-year-old Khanyisa Mayo has joined Amakhosi from Algerian club CR Belouizdad, adding experience and pace to their squad.

Mayo departed Cape Town City just before the start of the 2024/25 season, completing a permanent transfer to the Algerian giants.

Mayo is following in the footsteps of his father, former Bafana Bafana forward Patrick Mayo, who made over 60 appearances for Chiefs.

The 27-year-old now shares company with a golden lineage of father-and-son duos who have carried the Amakhosi torch across generations.

Among them are the club’s very own founding family, Dr. Kaizer Motaung and Kaizer Motaung Jr.; the legendary Eliakim and Doctor Khumalo; Joseph and Siphiwe Mkhonza; Fabian and Aden McCarthy; and the celebrated pair of Ace Nkomo and Morgan Gould.

Through their social media channels, the Soweto giants shared a video message announcing Bafana Bafana winger’s return to South Africa.

“Amakhosi Family, our new signing has a message for you.

“We are looking forward to welcoming him home soon,” said Chiefs.

“We just couldn’t wait to let you know that Khanyisa Mayo is Khosified!!! Welcome Khosi, we look forward to revealing that special jersey number….look out for the reveal coming soon.”
