CAPE TOWN – Kaizer Chiefs extended their unbeaten run in the Betway Premiership after holding Mamelodi Sundowns to a goalless draw at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
Nasreddine Nabi’s side settled for a stalemate with the league champions in front of a packed FNB Stadium, after Chiefs confirmed the clash was sold out.
All 75,000 tickets were sold out, causing a delay that saw the match kick off at 19h45.
Nabi praised last night’s performance but admitted his side missed chances that could have secured all three points.
“It was a very good game of football from both sides, but I believe and I think we deserved to get the three points,” said Nabi through his interpreter.
“In the second half, we tried to press higher. I think we should’ve scored to get on the full foot, but unfortunately, we couldn’t.
“With the situation, we couldn’t finish it, but it was a very good game, very intense 90 minutes, with two good teams. But unfortunately, we couldn’t offer three points to our fans.”
The draw keeps the Soweto giants in second place on the log with 10 points, tied with leaders Sekhukhune United, who edge ahead on goal difference.
Miguel Cardoso’s team also remain unbeaten after four matches, with two wins and two draws, placing them third on the log with eight points.
Sundowns mentor believes his side delivered a strong first-half performance and controlled much of the game.
“We saw an interesting first half from Mamelodi Sundowns, more close to what we want to have in the future,” said Cardoso.
“Leaving the spirit you want to leave in such matches is something we want to have, much more aggressive on the ball, much quicker on the ball and much closer to each other.
“I think we had a good first half, control of the ball and control of the match.”
