Chiefs confirmed Baartman signing

CAPE TOWN – Following legal disputes involving Cape Town Spurs and two of its former players, Kaizer Chiefs confirmed on Tuesday the signing of Luke Baartman, who joins the club from Ikamva based side.

With the acquisition of Baartman, Chiefs have now completed their ninth signing ahead of the 2025/26 season, further bolstering their squad for the current Betway Premiership campaign.

The 19-year-old reunites with his former Spurs teammate Asanele Velebayi, who also joined the Soweto giant last week after signing a long-term contract with the club.

Nasreddine Nabi’s squad has further strengthened its attacking options by adding another striker, Etiosa Ighodaro, ahead of the new season.

The 24-year-old Nigerian international spent last season on loan with AmaZulu FC.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Luke to our team,” says Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr.

“He is an exciting young talent that we’ve been monitoring for the past few seasons both at Club level, in the Bayhill Cup – where he was voted player of the tournament – and the U-17 national team that played at AFCON.

“We believe he will bring valuable versatility, playing both as a centre-forward and a winger. We look forward to seeing him in action soon.”
