New season, new faces for Chippa United

CAPE TOWN – Betway Premiership teams across the country are ramping up their preparations and finalising their squads as they gear up for the much anticipated start of the 2025/26 season, which officially kicks off on 9 August.

One of the busier teams this pre-season is Eastern Cape-based Chippa United, who have unveiled a new signing ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The Gqeberha-based outfit has unveiled six new signings, with five of them hailing from the Eastern Cape province.

The club appointed Sinethemba Badela as head coach and Sinesipho Mali as sporting director two months ago, both of whom also hail from the Eastern Cape.

The club announced the arrivals of Thulani Mini (Gqeberha), Khaya Mfecane (Qonce), Thamsanqa Magwaza (Mbizana), and Azola Tshobeni (Sterkspruit), all proudly Eastern Cape-born players.

It didn’t end there, as Siviwe Mpengesi’s side further bolstered their squad with two more additions, a 24-year-old former Cape Town City goalkeeper Elson Ayanda Sithole, and former Polokwane City and Mamelodi Sundowns experienced midfielder Sammy Seabi.

Badela’s side also welcomed the return of Qonce-born midfielder Goodman Mosele, who joins on a season-long loan from Orlando Pirates. He is joined by fellow Buccaneers teammate Abdoulaye S. Mariko, who also arrives on loan for the season.

Chippa will kick off the new season with a blockbuster clash against reigning champions Sundowns at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium this Saturday.
