Cape Town City announces the departure of senior players

Cape Town – Things are getting worse for Cape Town City as the club confirms the departure of nine senior players following their relegation from the Betway Premiership.

Last month, the Citizens saw their hopes shattered after the outcome of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Promotion Play-offs, which resulted in Orbit College securing promotion to the Betway Premiership.

The club announced on Saturday the departures of several key players, including captain and defender Thami Mkhize, Lorenzo Gordinho, goalkeeper Darren Keet, as well as midfielders Thabo Nodada, Darwin González, and Kamohelo Mokotjo.

The Cape-based side also parted ways with former Orlando Pirates midfielder Fortune Makaringe, Haashim Domingo, and former Magesi goalkeeper Elson Sithole.

Mkhize and Nodada were the only players to have spent nine seasons with Cape Town City, during which they won two trophies and made 270 and 250 appearances respectively.

It remains unclear whether Cape Town City will purchase a top-flight status to stay in the Betway Premiership or accept relegation and compete in the Motsepe Foundation Championship for the 2025/26 season.
