As dawn stretches its golden limbs over Durban’s skyline, the city prepares to lace up its soul and sprint into rhythm. The 8th annual Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K, set for Sunday, 13 July 2025, is not just another tick on the race calendar—it is a pulsating celebration of endurance, culture, and community.

This isn’t merely a race—it’s a living, breathing organism, with 10 kilometers of lifeblood surging from Masabalala Yengwa Avenue to the sunlit embrace of the Durban Beachfront, affectionately known as the Golden Mile. Whether you’re a lightning-footed elite chasing shadows or a joyful jogger dancing on the breeze, the course offers a canvas of opportunity, framed by the city’s stories.
A Tapestry Woven in Sweat and Song
After shaking the pavements of Gqeberha and Cape Town—drawing 4,000 and 15,000 runners respectively—the Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES now sprints into its third act with unwavering momentum. The Durban edition promises more than a test of stamina—it’s a full-throttle immersion into the heartbeat of KwaZulu-Natal.
Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the series, captures it best:
“The Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K continues to attract some of the best elite runners from South Africa and abroad, and each year we witness records fall and PBs tumble on this incredible course,” he says.
“At the same time, the race remains a standout experience for social runners—offering the perfect blend of competitive racing and community celebration, all in the heart of one of South Africa’s most iconic cities. This event truly places Durban on a global stage.”
Music in Every Stride
Every step will be underscored by a soundtrack of celebration. From Zulu drummers to traditional dancers, the course becomes a moving festival, a carnival of culture where rhythm meets resolve.
“At Absa, we are committed to creating memorable experiences that bring our communities together,” says Jabulile Nsibanyoni, Head of Sponsorships at Absa.
“The entertainment along the route is designed to highlight the unique heritage and tradition of Durban, making the race a celebration of the city’s lively spirit. Participants and spectators alike will enjoy performances that capture the rich cultural tapestry and feel-good atmosphere that Durban is known for.”
Unleashing the Wild Within
Enter PUMA, sprinting alongside the runners with its electrifying GO WILD activation. Having left its mark in Gqeberha and Cape Town, the experience now thunders into Durban, inviting runners to let loose, celebrate their effort, and embrace their journey.
“We’re excited to unleash our brand-new PUMA GO WILD activation in Durban as part of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K,” says Rae Trew-Browne, PUMA Run Train Marketing Manager.
“This moment isn’t about being the fastest—it’s about embracing your personal best, and we’re here to celebrate that with every runner on the day.”
Selfies. Hashtags. Sweat. Joy. Runners will be urged to document their wild side, tagging @PUMASouthAfrica as they stride through a kaleidoscope of energy.

Fuel for the Spirit, Fire for the Finish
And just when legs begin to falter and determination flickers, Chery South Africa brings the cavalry. Positioned to re-energize runners at the moment they need it most, their activation is the metaphorical wind at your back.
“At the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K, Chery’s on-route activation will focus on delivering a powerful boost of energy and motivation right when runners need it most,” says Tony Liu, CEO of Chery South Africa.
“We’re honoured to be part of an event that champions community, perseverance, and passion. To add to the excitement, we’re once again giving away a Chery Tiggo 4 Pro LiT to one lucky entrant.”
A car for a conqueror. One fortunate runner will drive home not just with a medal, but behind the wheel of a Chery Tiggo 4 Pro LiT, valued at R269,900—a reward for both endurance and commitment.

A Race With a Cause
This celebration has a deeper pulse—a cause that runs alongside every participant. The series proudly partners with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), supporting research, education, and those affected by cancer.
Runners can go beyond the finish line and take a stand for a cancer-free future by donating during registration—a reminder that every stride is part of a greater journey.
