Gqeberha residents are invited to join the city’s vibrant Inner-City Clean-Up on Saturday, 12 April 2025, from 08:30 to 10:00, starting at the Absa Branch on Govan Mbeki Avenue.
The event is part of the build-up to the highly anticipated 3rd annual Absa RUN YOUR CITY GQEBERHA 10K, set to take place the following day, Sunday, 13 April.
“The Inner-City Clean-Up is an opportunity to contribute to a cleaner city while fostering a strong sense of community pride,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Series Founder.
Participants will be provided with gloves and refuse bags, and all waste will be properly disposed of.
As a thank-you, volunteers will enjoy breakfast packs and beverages courtesy of Absa. “Your participation not only benefits the environment but also helps make Gqeberha a more sustainable city,” Meyer adds.
The clean-up supports the event’s **Single Use Plastic (SUP) Management Campaign**, which aims to reduce SUPs by 85% across the series.
“We’ll have designated litter zones along the race route and encourage runners to support #ICarryMyOwn by using reusable water bottles,” says Meyer.
Jabulile Nsibanyoni, Absa’s Head of Sponsorships, adds, “This initiative goes beyond environmental impact. It fosters a sense of pride and ownership, reinforcing the power of collective action to drive meaningful change.”
The 10K race starts at 07:00 on Sunday, 13 April, with the route beginning and ending on Beach Road, Humewood. The event also supports the **Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA)**, a long-standing advocate for cancer awareness and support. Runners can donate to CANSA when registering online.
One lucky participant could win a **Chery Tiggo 4 Pro LiT**, valued at R269,900, courtesy of Chery South Africa. To qualify, participants must register, collect their race number, and complete the 10km route.
