Cape Town – Zukiswa Gaxela, a dedicated runner from RCS Gugulethu Athletics Club, is set to mark a special milestone this year—participating in her 10th Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES race.
Gaxela will take part in the iconic Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K on Sunday, May 11, 2025, which also celebrates the 10th anniversary of the event.
Gaxela, who has been passionate about running since childhood, trains four to five times a week. “My favorite distance is the 21km, but there’s something about this race that keeps me coming back year after year,” she says.
“It’s the vibe, the social interaction, and the route that make it special. Completing all nine races so far is a huge achievement for me—it feels like time has flown by!”
As a club runner, Gaxela is used to racing regularly and chasing personal bests, but the Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES stands out.
“What I love about this event is the mix of serious racers and fun runners. There’s no pressure, just people coming together to enjoy the race,” she explains.
“I’m especially looking forward to the Absa Cheer Zone, where the supporters give us an energy boost. Plus, I can’t wait for the PUMA 100m Sprint to test my speed!”
Gaxela has witnessed the event’s growth over the years. “Every year, the event gets better. From smooth race number collection to well-stocked water points and a safe route, it’s always an awesome experience. Last year was extra special when I saw myself dancing with one of the mascots on TV during the race!” she recalls with a smile.
She also encourages other runners to join. “I always recommend this race to others. It’s the perfect way to start a healthy lifestyle,” she says.
Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and founder of the series, praised Gaxela’s dedication.
“Having runners like Zukiswa return year after year means the world to us,” says Meyer.
“Her loyalty, along with many others, is a testament to the quality of the event. We’re excited to celebrate the 10th anniversary in Cape Town and look forward to seeing everyone on race day.”
With her 10th race on the horizon, Gaxela is more motivated than ever to enjoy the day and continue her journey with the Absa RUN YOUR CITY SERIES.
