CAPE TOWN – As the 2024/25 Betway Premiership is set to start, Stellenbosch FC has continued to strengthen the squad.
The Cape Winelands team has announced the signings of two new players, a Kenyan centre-back Brian Onyango as a free agent and striker Ashley Cupido from Cape Town Spurs.
This comes after Steve Barker’s chargers lost their number one forward Iqraam Rayners and captain Deano van Rooyen, the pair joined Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates respectively.
“First of all, I would like to thank the almighty God for giving me another opportunity to showcase my talent, and the coach, technical staff, and management for affording me the chance to join the club,” Onyango said.
“Stellenbosch FC is a good, competitive club with ambitions to challenge for the title and in the cup competitions. There are very few players who could say no to a project like this.”
Cupido joins Stellies on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee after spending the last four seasons with Spurs, where he scored 31 goals in 121 appearances across all competitions.
“We’re excited to welcome the talented 23-year-old to our ambitious club,” said Stellenbosch FC CEO, Rob Benadie.
“He is a player who will fit our system well and who we believe has the ability to consistently feature at the top end of the PSL’s goal-scoring charts.
