KZN Inland record another successful AGM

CAPE TOWN – The KwaZulu-Natal Inland Cricket Union held their third Annual General Meeting this week which resulted in positive outcomes reflecting on the past year and looking ahead to the new season.

Robust discussion was had as the union took stock on what has transpired over the last twelve months and the meeting saw Advocate Ranjiv Nirghin and Virodh Singh being re-appointed as Independent Directors. There has also been a change in the board with Bongani Sibiya and Goolam Amod being elected as Non-Independent Directors.

Despite a tough season on the field for the Tuskers, President of the KZN Inland Cricket Union Shaun van der Byl was confident that the team will turn their fortunes around quickly.

“Although it was sad that the Tuskers were relegated from Division One, we are ready to fight for promotion,” Van der Byl said. “We are confident that the team has the potential to get back to Division One.

“As a ‘smaller union’ we continue to punch above our weight, and I want to thank the staff who have done well in their respective roles.

“I want to thank our sponsor, AET Security as well as all other sponsors for supporting the union.”

The focus for CEO Jason Sathiaseelan is making sure that the Tuskers are equipped to challenge for promotion back into Division One next season.

“Our first season in Division 1 came with its many challenges and there is no doubt that the lessons learned will better prepare us for our return to Division 1,” Sathiaseelan said. “Having been promoted before, there is no reason why we can’t challenge for honours again.”

The CEO also reflected on the support required to maintain their stadium.

“We are hoping that the Msunduzi Municipality can come on board to support us with regards to the Pietermaritzburg Oval. The stadium requires a magnitude of investment in order to meet the required standards. The union is using its own funding to commence with some projects.”

From a governance perspective, the KZN Inland Cricket Union returned a clean bill and Sathiaseelan is satisfied with how the Union faired off the field.

“We are happy to announce that KZN Inland has again reflected a profit for the 2023/2024 financial year and has received a clean audit.

“We want to thank all our partners for their wonderful support in the last year as we look forward to the new season.

“A big thank you to AET Security for their sponsorship of the Tuskers in the last two years.

“A new sponsor will be announced shortly,” he added.
