Mosimane received an honorary doctoral degree from UJ

CAPE TOWN – Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane, has on Thursday received an honorary doctoral degree from the University of Johannesburg (UJ).

The honour recognises his exceptional contributions to the sport and his commitment to excellence and innovation.

Mosimane has coached teams such as Sundowns, SuperSport United, Bafana Bafana, Al Ahly SC in Egypt, Al Ahli and Abha FC in Saudi Arabia.

In 2022, Mosimane founded the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools which is dedicated to developing young soccer talent across Africa.

The 59-year-old returned from Saudi Arabia after a short stint with the Saudi Pro League side Abha Club having joined earlier this year.

“Mosimane’s contributions extend beyond coaching, he is a vocal advocate for African football and has significantly impacted the development of young African players,” said UJ statement.

“His leadership and achievements have paved the way for other African coaches and elevated the status of African football on the global stage.”

Mosimane shares his excitement after being honoured in the presence of his family and football lovers.

“I’m deeply honoured and grateful to the University of Johannesburg for this recognition. I have been, always will be a student of our beautiful game,” said the Kagiso born.

“Football is a powerful tool for change, it is a source of hope and a platform to educate and inspire the next generation.

“This honorary doctorate is not just a personal achievement but a result of the hard work and dedication of all the players, coaches, teams and supporters who have been part of this incredible journey.”
