WATCH | Twenty-year-old student wins brand-new Chery Tiggo 4 Pro LiT vehicle at Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K

SAMUKELO  LAMULA described winning a brand-new Chery Tiggo 4 Pro LiT  vehicle valued from R279 000 at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K race on Sunday as a pinnacle moment in his life. 

The 20-year-old from Kwazulu-Natal – who is currently studying actuarial science at the University of Cape Town – couldn’t believe his luck.

“I still can’t believe it because it really means a lot to me. They called me yesterday and said I could be one of the potential winners. I didn’t think it would actually happen. So, when it happened it was the greatest day in my life,”  an elated Lamula said while running on the race route chaperoned by two runners carrying Chery flags on Sunday.

The announcement of the winner was made before the start of the popular race that started at Woodbridge Island in Milnerton and finished 10km later in lower Long Street in the heart of the Mother City in the shadow of Table Mountain.

All of the 12 0000 entrants in the race were automatically eligible to win a brand-new Chery Tiggo 4 Pro LiT Vehicle valued from R279 000. Ultimately four finalists were selected in a random draw.  The finalists, three ladies and the youngster were on the stage before the start of the race.

To Samukelo’s surprise, his name was the one drawn out of a red Absa bag and he was declared the winner to great jubilation from the crowd.

An overwhelmed Samukelo said winning the car couldn’t have come at a better time for him.

“They showed me the car before the race. It’s a beautiful silver grey colour and looks awesome. But I don’t want to lie because I still can’t believe I won the car. It will take some time to process. Only when I get to drive the car after the race, will it probably sink in.”

Samukelo says he already has his license and will be using the car mainly as a shuttle from his residence to the university campus as well as shopping for groceries amongst other things.

Founded in 2015, the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN has established itself as a ‘proudly South African, proudly Cape Town’ must do mass participation road running event that celebrates everything Cape Town – the vibe, the city and the people!

One of the biggest drawcards is for all participants to stand a chance to win a brand new Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Lit at all five races in the series.  With Gqeberha and Cape Town already having announced their winners, there are three more Chery Tiggo 4 Pro LiT vehicles up for grabs.

To qualify for a chance to win this incredible prize, runners need to complete three simple steps: first, register for the event and pay the entry fee; second, collect your race number during the designated race pack collection times; and finally, ensure you’re at the start line on event day.

The next race in the series is the DURBAN 10K on Sunday 7, July 2024. This is followed by  the TSHWANE 10K on Sunday, 25 August and ends with the JOBURG 10K on Tuesday, 24 September.
