CAPE TOWN – Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler admitted everyone is worried at the club following another winless game having suffered a defeat at home.
The Citizens added to their winless streak after going down to Orlando Pirates 2-0 in a Premier Soccer League match at the DHL Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Two goals from Tshegofatso Mabasa sank the Cape Town-based side as they dropped to the seventh position on the log with 35 points after 26 games.
Tinkler said what is happening at the club is affecting everyone, not just the players.
“It’s affecting everyone, you know not just the players, but everyone at the club, ” said Tinkler.
“But we always believe that you’re one win away from turning it around. And that’s what has to continue.
“Getting that one win under the belt to turn things around, that’s the one thing I am as a fighter. I’ll continue fighting every day to see if the next win comes.”
City hasn’t won a match this year in the campaign, making it 10 games the side played without a win.
Tinkler sounding positive about turning things around soon revealed he is not worried about losing his job.
He admitted to having discussions with the club management over his future.
“We’ve been discussing this for a long, long time. We’ve been discussing that for a long, long time,” he adds.
“It wasn’t just this last week or the week before. We’ve had this discussion for a long, long time.
“Listen, I need to worry about the controllables – that I cannot control. Right now, I’m in charge. I carry on being in charge. It’s the unfortunate reality of being a coach. When the results are not coming, the ball is going to be in your hands.
“You know, blame comes on you, blame never falls to the players. It falls on the coach. So, fine. I can’t worry about that. Somewhere along the line, it will come. I’ll leave you to worry about it.”
